What do I need to hook up my computer to the internet?

Students must provide their own computer and purchase a 10BaseT Ethernet workstation interface card and category 5 patch cord. An additional Ethernet cord will be provided in each room to hook up the provided VOIP telephones. For technology related help, students can contact the University HelpDesk. The HelpDesk is available 365 days a year around the clock at 852-7997 or via email at helpdesk@louisville.edu. Can additional furniture be brought into the apartment?

We want our residents to make their apartment a home. Residents are more than welcome to bring furniture in or to temporarily remove furniture. It is, however, the student's responsibility to store these items and to RETURN any items before they move out. The student will be charged for any missing or damaged items.

If I pay in full, do I get a discount?

At this time we are not offering any rent discounts.

What size are the beds?

The beds are extra long twin - 80". You can purchase bedding at many home stores such as Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target, Wal-Mart, JC Penney’s, and many others.

If I am over 21, do I need to have a guarantor?

No, residents are not required to have a guarantor unless they are under 18 years of age.

When is my first payment due?

Payments are due on or before August 1st for the Fall and December 15th for the Spring. If a student chooses to pay for their housing in full, the full amount must be submitted on or before August 1st as well. Students who cannot financially honor this request can set up payment options with the Bursar’s Office.

Will you send me a bill each month for rent?

No, we do not send a bill for rent. Students are sent an invoice prior to the beginning of each semester prompting them on the amount that they owe the university. We do encourage every resident to look over their lease agreement and become familiar with the payment due dates. We also post fliers in designated areas of the property, place reminders in the monthly newsletter, and post a reminder on a marker board near the front door for residents to see as they enter the building.

How do our rates compare to on-campus housing rates?

When comparing our rates to on-campus rates you must take into consideration many variables, including floor plan layout, square footage, furniture, utilities, and community amenities. Our leasing staff is available to discuss with you how our rates compare to other housing options and validate that our community offers you the best value for your money, as well as a great location and incredible amenities.

How many people live there?

The University of Louisville Properties houses 1,288 students.

Do I have to have a meal plan?

Every student at the University of Louisville is required to purchase a meal plan. Meal plan rates vary between housing options.

Can I pay my bill with a credit card? Is there an extra charge?

If you submit your housing payment to the university’s Bursar’s Office, you can submit your payment via credit card. However, extra charges will be implemented for processing any credit card payment starting at a $15.00 fee. Fees are subject to increase depending on the amount you are attempting to pay towards your university account. Generally, residents pay for their housing fees with either a check or a money order to the Bursar’s office. Exact amounts that are due to the university can be found on our students’ Ulink accounts.

When do I put down a deposit?

We do not take deposits. A non-refundable Application Fee and service fee of $175.00 is due at the time that you submit your application. This is a one time fee that is required for all NEW residents. Students returning to any of our on campus housing options are waived from submitting this amount.

What utilities are included in my rent?

Rent is all inclusive at the University of Louisville Properties. This means that there are no utility charges! Water, electric, phone, cable and internet services are all provided to the resident at no additional cost. Phone services include caller ID, call waiting, and voice mail. Internet is provided through the University’s Ethernet service.

Is parking available?

The University of Louisville provides an ample amount of parking for our students to utilize around our buildings. There is always adequate parking to meet everyone's needs. A yellow parking pass must be purchased from the university parking office in order to park in the lot. Residents of Bettie Johnson Hall are not required to pay for the pass because the cost has been included in the rent amount. Students living in Kurz Hall, Community Park, or Billy Minardi Hall must purchase a parking pass.

Can I request an apartment or roommates?

Yes! Students will now be able to self assign. We try our best to accommodate our residents’ apartment assignment request. If a resident wishes to room with certain people they will identify them on the online application, they must know the students ID number. If a change occurs after the initial application has been turned in, a resident can fill out the room change request form available online. However, the closer it gets to move-in it becomes more difficult to accommodate these requests so any requests cannot be guaranteed.

What if I need to cancel my lease?

Just like with any other housing facilities, the license is a binding contract. However, if a special circumstance arises then a resident may fill out a lease cancellation form online. This form does NOT guarantee that the resident will be released from his/her lease agreement with out financial penalty. When can I move in?

The apartments are opened year around and may be occupied on the first day of the lease term. For the Fall semester, this is usually the middle of August and approximately one week prior to the beginning of classes. For the Spring semester, this is the beginning of January, and for the Summer semester, it is usually the middle of May.

Can I use my financial aid?

Residents are permitted to use their financial aid towards their rent. Proof of aid on your student account must be reflected on your student account or you will need to submit proof to our office indicating the amount you will be awarded.

What is the cost?

How close to campus are you?

What types of apartments/rooms are available?

Options and choices are what Bettie Johnson Hall is all about! Not every student wants or needs the same features in an apartment. Each of our apartment types offers something special to meet the needs and desires of our residents. The apartment choices we offer are as follows: **1X1-ONE BEDROOM WITH ONE BATH: These apartments offer single room accommodations to those students wishing to have the absolute most privacy. Each resident has his/her own bedroom, living room, and kitchen with a sofa and chair, table, chest of drawers, individual closet, bed and study desk, microwave, refrigerator, dish washer, and stove. **Deluxe 1X1-ONE BEDROOM WITH ONE BATH AND EXTRA SPACE: These apartments are the same as our regular 1X1 apartments but have a special extra room for a study area or more closet space. **2X1-TWO BEDROOM WITH ONE BATH: These apartments offer student privacy with his/her own bedroom but share a private bathroom with another student. Each apartment has a large living room and kitchen with a sofa and chair, table, microwave, refrigerator, dish washer, and stove. Each resident has individual closets, chest of drawers, bed, and study desk within his/her own bedroom. **2X2-TWO BEDROOM WITH TWO BATH: These standard apartments are for two students with more living space than any other room on campus. Each resident has their own private bedroom and bathroom with an individual closet, chest of drawers, bed, and study desk. They share a living room and kitchen with a sofa and chair, table, microwave, refrigerator, dish washer, and stove. **3X2-THREE BEDROOM WITH TWO BATH: These apartments are designed for three students. Each resident has his/her own bedroom with an individual closet, chest of drawers, bed, and study desk. Two residents will share a bathroom while one will have a private bathroom. All three will share the living room and kitchen area with a sofa and chair, table, microwave, refrigerator, dish washer, and stove. **4X2-FOUR BEDROOM WITH TWO BATH: These apartments are designed for four students. Each resident has his/her own bedroom with an individual closet, chest of drawers, bed, and study desk. Two residents will share a bathroom. All four will share the living room and kitchen area with a sofa and chair, table, microwave, refrigerator, dish washer, and stove. Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall There are four room types available at Herman and Heddy Kurz Hall. **DOUBLE rooms include two suites connected by a bathroom. The suites each houses two students and include two beds, two desks with chairs, and a micro-fridge. **There are two types of DELUXE DOUBLE rooms. The first type includes one suite that houses two students. It includes a private bathroom along with two beds, two desks with chairs, and a micro-fridge. The other Deluxe Double shares a bathroom with a single room but it considerably larger. **SINGLE rooms house one student and include a bed, desk and chair, and a micro-fridge. It shares a bathroom with a deluxe double room. **DELUXE SINGLE rooms house one student and include a private bathroom, a bed, desk and chair, and a micro-fridge. It offers complete privacy. Community Park There are two room types available at Community Park. Double rooms include two suites connected by a bathroom. The suites each houses two students and include two beds, two desks with chairs, and a micro-fridge. Deluxe Double rooms include one suite that houses two students.
